Opening March 8th, 7pm
In conjunction with the International Women's Day Panel, this exhibit showcases work from WCA Philadelphia members including Alison Altergott, Ellen Bonett, Timothea Canny, Molly Crowley, Veronica Gledhill, Marie Elcin, Deborah McCarthy, Bonnie MacAllister, Marcelle Harwell-Pachnowski, Sonia Sherrod, and Michelle Wilson. Through diverse mediums, these artists chronicle their experiences through imagery of women at work, cultural representations of the feminine, and abstract goddess depictions. “Women” at International House is a partnership between the Women’s Caucus for Art of Philadelphia, the African Studies Department at the University of Pennsylvania and One Book, One Philadelphia for the celebration of the text, Persepolis.
The Women's Caucus for Art, founded in 1972 in Philadelphia in connection with the College Art Association (CAA), is a national member organization unique in its multi-disciplinary, multicultural membership of artists, art historians, students, educators, and museum professionals. The mission of the Women’s Caucus for Art is to create community through art, education and social activism. We are committed to: recognizing the contribution of women in the arts, providing women with leadership opportunities and professional development, expanding networking and exhibition opportunities for women, supporting local, national and global art activism, and advocating for equity in the arts for all.
